Ingredients

  • 4 lb pork shoulder
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 1 cup yellow onion, sliced
  • 0,5 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1,5 cup barbecue sauce
  • 8 g soft burger buns

Instructions

  1. 1

Pat 4 lb pork shoulder dry and rub all over with the brown sugar, smoked paprika, garlic powder and onion powder.

  2. 2

Place sliced onion in the slow cooker and set the pork on top; pour in the apple cider vinegar.

  3. 3

Cook on LOW for 8 hours until the meat pulls apart effortlessly with a fork.

  4. 4

Transfer pork to a board, discard excess fat, and shred with two forks.

  5. 5

Return the shredded meat to the pot, stir in the barbecue sauce and let it soak up the juices for 15 minutes.

  6. 6

    Pile onto buns and serve.

Chef's tip

Reserve a cup of the cooking juices and add it back with the sauce for extra moisture and deep, layered flavor.

Suggested pairing

Serve with a tangy vinegar coleslaw and a cold amber ale.
