Use Olivi without downloading an app: your meal planner and grocery list in the browser

You don’t need to download an app to use Olivi: everything works in your phone’s browser, on iPhone or Android. The meal planner, the real-time shared grocery list, recipe scanning and recipe creation with Olive are all available at olivi.ca: and you can add an Olivi icon to your home screen that launches the app full-screen, exactly like a native app. Here’s how it works.

Why a web app instead of a download?

A web app lives in your browser: nothing to install, nothing to update, zero storage used. You open olivi.ca, sign in, and you always have the very latest version: new features and fixes arrive automatically, no App Store or Play Store required.

It also means Olivi works everywhere: iPhone, Android, tablet and computer, with the same account and the same data synced in real time. Start your grocery list on the computer, check items off at the store on your phone.

Everything Olivi does in your browser

The mobile web version offers Olivi’s full feature set:

  • The weekly meal planner: build your menu in minutes, on your own or with Olive.
  • The automatic grocery list, sorted by aisle, generated from your plan: and shareable in real time with a partner (each of you sees what the other checks off).
  • Recipe scanning: photograph a handwritten recipe, a cookbook page or a PDF, and Olivi turns it into a structured recipe in your collection.
  • Import by URL: paste the address of a recipe you found online and Olivi extracts it cleanly (with translation if you want).
  • Recipe creation with Olive: describe a craving in the chat (“a veggie dinner ready in 20 minutes”) and Olive proposes a complete recipe tailored to your tastes and allergies.
  • Nutrition facts per serving, the pantry, statistics: it’s all there.

Add Olivi to your iPhone home screen (iOS)

Three taps in Safari give Olivi its own icon that launches full-screen, without the address bar:

  • 1. Open olivi.ca in Safari and sign in to your account.
  • 2. Tap the Share button (the square with an upward arrow, centre of the bottom bar).
  • 3. Scroll and choose “Add to Home Screen”, then confirm with “Add”.
  • That’s it: the Olivi icon appears on your home screen, right alongside your other apps.

Add Olivi to your home screen on Android

On Android, Chrome even offers a proper install:

  • 1. Open olivi.ca in Chrome and sign in.
  • 2. Tap the ⋮ menu (top right).
  • 3. Choose “Add to Home screen” (or “Install app” if Chrome offers it), then confirm.
  • The Olivi icon joins your apps and opens full-screen, just like an app installed from the Play Store.

Does it really replace a “real” app?

This technology is called a progressive web app (PWA). Once added to your home screen, Olivi launches with its own splash screen, fills the whole display and behaves like a native app: to the point where you forget the browser is doing the work underneath.

For everyday use: planning, checking off your list at the store, following a recipe while cooking, chatting with Olive: the experience is equivalent. A native iOS app also exists (it’s included in the subscription) and adds a few iPhone-specific extras, like the cooking timer in the Dynamic Island. The point is: it’s YOUR choice, and the same account works everywhere.

One account, everywhere, in real time

Mobile web, computer, iOS app: your plans, recipes and lists stay in sync continuously. Add an item from the computer and it appears instantly on your partner’s phone if you share the list. No setup: it’s the same Olivi account.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to download an app to use Olivi?

No. Olivi runs entirely in your phone’s browser (Safari, Chrome…) at olivi.ca: meal planner, shared grocery list, recipe scanning and the Olive chat. The iOS app exists too, but it’s optional.

How do I add Olivi to my iPhone home screen?

Open olivi.ca in Safari, tap the Share button (square with an arrow), then “Add to Home Screen” and “Add”. The Olivi icon then launches the app full-screen, like a native app.

How do I add Olivi on Android?

Open olivi.ca in Chrome, tap the ⋮ menu at the top right, then “Add to Home screen” (or “Install app”). Confirm, and the icon joins your apps.

Does the web version have the same features as the app?

Yes: meal planner, real-time shared grocery list, recipe scanning and import, recipe creation with Olive, nutrition facts, pantry. And since it’s the web, you always have the latest version with zero updates to install.

What is a progressive web app (PWA)?

A website built to behave like an app: home-screen icon, full-screen launch with a splash screen, touch-first interface. Olivi uses this technology to deliver an app-like experience with no download.
