Migrate your recipes from another app (Paprika, Mela, Crouton, CSV, notes)

Bring your whole collection into Olivi in one operation: another app's export, a CSV file, pasted notes or a list of links, with a review step before importing.

Coming from another app, or keeping your recipes somewhere else? The Import several recipes page brings your whole collection into Olivi in a single operation.

Where: Recipes > + Add > Several at once, or the “Import several recipes” card on the import page.

From Word or Pages

Recipes stored in Word documents? Upload the .docx directly in Import several recipes: Olive reads the text, splits the recipes, and if the document holds a single one, its photo is imported too. From Pages: File → Export To → Word, then drop the resulting .docx (the Pages format can't be read directly).

From Paprika

  1. In Paprika: Settings > Export and pick the Paprika format, you get a .paprikarecipes file.
  2. On olivi.ca (file upload is web-only for now): open Import several recipes and upload the file.
  3. Your whole collection shows up: even 1000+ recipes: with quantities, sections (“Marinade”, “Sauce”), times, sources, photos and categories preserved.
  4. Your photos are imported automatically (the ones embedded in the export), your Paprika categories become real Olivi categories (created if needed, recipes assigned), and if a recipe has no prep time, Olivi estimates it from its steps.
Warning
For a big collection, expect a wait: reading the file takes a few seconds, then the checked recipes import one by one: allow about 1 minute per 150 recipes (roughly 7 to 10 minutes for 1000 recipes). Keep the tab open and your computer awake until it finishes; progress shows continuously and an estimate appears before you start.

From Mela

In Mela: Settings > Export recipes → a .melarecipes file, then upload it in the same place. A single .melarecipe file works too.

From Crouton

In Crouton: export your recipes (.crumb files, alone or in a zip archive), then upload them in the same place.

From Excel, Numbers or Notion (CSV)

  1. Download the CSV template offered under the upload button: two sample recipes show the format.
  2. The first row holds the headers: title plus ingredients (one ingredient per line inside the cell) or instructions are required; description, servings, prep time, cook time, tags, source and image are optional (French header names work too).
  3. Save as CSV from your spreadsheet and upload: the separator (comma or semicolon) and Excel encoding are detected automatically.

From notes (Apple Notes, text)

Copy the text of your notes: several recipes in a row is fine: and paste it into the big text area. Olive splits and structures each recipe (up to 12 per batch; repeat with the rest if you have more).

From a list of links

Paste a list of web addresses (bookmarks, a Pinterest board…): each link is read like a regular web import, in the same operation.

Web or mobile app?

  • Pasting text or links: everywhere, web and app.
  • CSV file: everywhere, web and app. One nuance: the app reads CSV as UTF-8 (Numbers, Notion, Google Sheets exports and our template: perfect); an old Windows-encoded Excel CSV fares better on the web, which fixes the encoding automatically.
  • App files (Paprika, Mela, Crouton): on the web (olivi.ca) for now.

The review before importing

Whatever the source, you get the list of found recipes with checkboxes (Check all / Uncheck all). You decide, then Import: recipes are added one by one with visible progress, if one fails, the others carry on.

Good to know
Your file is read right in your browser: nothing is sent to our servers until you press Import, and only the checked recipes are saved.
