Two independent settings: language and region
- The language (French / English) changes the app's display.
- The region changes the product database behind the suggestions you get while typing in the grocery list or the pantry.
Each territory has its own catalogue of about 3,000 products: the names people actually use there, local brands, and the formats sold in stores. For example, the UK gets "aubergine" and "double cream", the US gets common American brands, France gets "myrtilles" and "crème fraîche".
Covered territories
| App language | Available regions | | --- | --- | | Français | Canada · France · Belgique · Suisse | | English | Canada · United States · United Kingdom |
Set automatically at the start
Nothing to configure: the region is detected on first use.
- Mobile app: from your device's language and region (e.g. an iPhone set to "English (UK)" starts with the United Kingdom region).
- Web: from your country when you create your profile (onboarding).
Change it anytime
Go to Profile → Region and pick your country: the effect on suggestions is immediate. Items you've already added, your recipes and your plans don't move: only the suggestion bank changes.
Bonus for Europe
- France, Belgium, Switzerland, United Kingdom: recipes display in metric units (ml, g, °C) instead of cups and °F.
- France and Belgium: vocabulary adapts to European French ("myrtilles" rather than "bleuets").
Your country isn't listed?
Pick the region closest to your grocery habits (in Australia, United Kingdom works great; in Ireland, United Kingdom too). And remember: free typing works everywhere, for any product.
Drop us a line through the Contact page on olivi.ca to tell us which country to add: product databases are built on demand.
