Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 4 cups broccoli florets
  • 0,33 cups soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp garlic
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. 1

Whisk soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil and cornstarch with 3 tbsp water to make the sauce.

  2. 2

Brown 1 lb ground beef in a hot skillet, breaking it up, until no pink remains; drain excess fat.

  3. 3

Push beef aside, add garlic and ginger, and stir 30 seconds until aromatic.

  4. 4

Add broccoli florets and 2 tbsp water; cover and steam 3 minutes until bright green.

  5. 5

Pour in the sauce and toss over high heat until thickened and glossy, 1 minute.

  6. 6

Finish with sesame seeds and serve over rice.

Chef's tip

Cook the beef in a wide, very hot skillet without crowding so it browns and caramelizes instead of steaming in its own juices.

Suggested pairing

A lightly chilled Riesling balances the salty-sweet sauce.
