Cook with cooking mode

Follow a recipe step by step in full screen, hands-free: voice read-aloud, a screen that stays on, and adjustable servings.

Open a recipe, then tap "Cooking mode" to follow it comfortably while you cook.

The steps, extra large

Each step is shown in large type. You check them off as you go; the screen stays on so it won't shut off when your hands are full.

The built-in timer

When a step includes a time ("simmer for 20 minutes"), Olivi detects it on its own and offers a timer button already set. One tap and the countdown starts: no need to leave the app or ask your oven timer.

The timer follows you everywhere (iPhone app)

As soon as you start the timer, the countdown appears at the top of your iPhone, in the Dynamic Island (the black area around the camera), and on your lock screen. In practice:

  1. You start the timer on a step
  2. You can leave the app, reply to a text, lock your phone
  3. The countdown keeps showing, down to the second, with the name of your recipe and the current step
  4. A long press on the Dynamic Island shows the full view

When the countdown hits 00:00 on your lock screen, it's ready!

Good to know
The Dynamic Island is on iPhone 14 Pro and newer. On other iPhones (iOS 16.2+), the timer still appears on the lock screen.

Voice read-aloud (mobile)

On the iPhone app, Olive can read the steps out loud: handy when your hands are in the dough.

Adjust the servings

Change the number of servings on the recipe page: the ingredient quantities recalculate automatically.

Complex recipes

Olive can break a big recipe into sub-preparations ("For the sauce", "For the fish") so it's easier to keep track.

Tip
Rate your recipe after you've cooked it: Olive takes it into account for its next suggestions.
